Alright, confession time. Over the last year, I’ve gradually allowed media (social, news, podcasts, etc.) to become my number one information source. And if I’m honest, sometimes I’ve allowed it to become my truth source. The result? Frustration, cynicism, confusion… hardcore distraction. That is not from God.
I need to recenter. Do you?
In this confusing post-modern world of ideologies, political agendas, and opinions vying for our attention, even Christians are being divided. “And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand” (Mark 3:25).
In our efforts to fight for good causes (and so many are good), I am convicted and left wondering, are we doing more harm than good?!?
Allowing our flesh to speak over social media is destructive (Psalm 34:13).
Pointing fingers and judging others only points 4 fingers back revealing pride and self-righteousness (James 4:6-7).
Hatred is comprable to murder (Matthew 5:21-22).
I need to check my Thoughts AND Words. Do you?
Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.
Romans 8:6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
Allowing man (even “good” ones) or the world to be our information and truth sources and hyper-focusing on good causes has distracted us from our number one cause – winning souls for Christ.
In an attempt to make sense of the world and make it right,
don’t forget who you are and why you are here.
2 Corinthians 5:18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation
James 1:19-20 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
It's time to recenter. Want to join me?
I’m actually challenging myself to return back to my number one source. Eliminate media’s voice temporarily so that I may hear God’s voice. I'm in day 2 and its been difficult. I'm finding my default habit is to get on Facebook when I'm not doing anything or my husband is driving. I'm finding I want to jump on a worldview or current events podcast while in the car rider line or when going on a walk. Let me be clear, none of these are wrong, but for me, right, none are bringing life.
How is God convicting you on how to quiet the other voices?
Proverbs 4:20-23 My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them,
and healing to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.
